ezer || /ay’-zer/

Ezer || /ay’-zer/ noun • helper, helpmeet

.

Ezer is the Hebrew word that describes God’s character as a helper. It is used twenty-one times in the Old Testament, twice in reference to the first woman. Ezer, when accompanied by ‘kenegdo’ in Genesis 2:18;20, means ‘a helper suitable for him.'

.

.

“Then the LORD God said, 'It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.'” (Genesis 2:18 ESV)

.

.

I chose the name Everyday Ezer for my blog in hopes of shedding light on the uniqueness and beauty of a term frequently used to ‘keep women down.' An Everyday Ezer is not simply a helper, rather an essential counterpart; a confidante, cheerleader, lover, and friend.
